About Volvo

Volvo built its first production car, the OV4, in Gothenburg in 1927 as an offshoot of the bearing manufacturer SKF. The brand quickly became associated with durability and safety, and in 1959 a Volvo engineer developed the three-point seatbelt, which the company made freely available to other manufacturers. The brand's name comes from the Latin for 'I roll'.

Volvo was owned by Ford from 1999 before China's Geely bought it in 2010, a period that brought substantial investment and a refreshed range. Today Volvo Cars is known for Scandinavian design, safety technology and its XC family of SUVs. Its electric line-up includes the compact EX30, the EX60 and the seven-seat EX90, sold alongside mild and plug-in hybrid versions of the XC40, XC60 and XC90. Volvo has moved a growing share of its range to electric power, and it remains a popular choice in the UK for family and company car drivers looking for comfortable, well-equipped SUVs.

Volvo on a car subscription

Volvo suits drivers looking for a comfortable, safety-focused SUV on flexible terms, and the brand has long promoted subscription-style ownership itself. The electric EX30, EX60 and EX90 let people try a premium EV without a long commitment, and they can carry low Benefit-in-Kind tax for company car users. Check the mileage allowance, whether insurance and servicing are included, and the real-world range of electric models if you regularly drive long distances.

Volvo subscriptions: FAQs

Can I get a Volvo on a car subscription in the UK?

Yes. Volvos are offered by a number of UK subscription and short-lease providers, and the manufacturer has run its own subscription-style schemes. Terms and models change over time, so check current availability.

Which electric Volvos can I subscribe to?

Providers may list the EX30, EX60 or EX90. The EX60 began reaching customers in 2026, so it may be less widely available on subscription than older models at first.

Are plug-in hybrid Volvos available on subscription?

Often, yes. Plug-in hybrid XC60 and XC90 models can suit drivers who cannot charge at home every night, but you will get the best economy only if you charge regularly.
