About Porsche

Ferdinand Porsche set up his engineering consultancy in Stuttgart in 1931, and the firm's early work included the design of the original Volkswagen Beetle. The first car to carry the Porsche name, the 356, appeared in 1948, followed in 1963 by the 911, which remains the company's defining model more than sixty years later. The Porsche family still holds a significant stake in the business.

Porsche built a long motorsport record, including many outright wins at Le Mans, and broadened its range with the Cayenne SUV in 2002, the Panamera and the Macan. It became part of the Volkswagen Group and was separately listed on the stock market in 2022. The Taycan, launched in 2019, was its first fully electric car, and the latest Macan and Cayenne are now also offered in electric form. Despite its broader range, the 911 remains central to the brand, and Porsche continues to build its cars at plants in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen and Leipzig, as well as in Slovakia.

Porsche on a car subscription

A Porsche subscription can suit drivers who want a sports car or performance SUV for a season or a set period without the cost and risk of buying one. Electric versions of the Taycan, Macan and Cayenne also let people try a high-performance EV. Insurance is the main thing to check: expect a high insurance group, a sizeable excess, minimum age and experience requirements, and possibly a larger deposit. Mileage limits are often tight on prestige contracts.

Porsche subscriptions: FAQs

Can I get a Porsche on a car subscription in the UK?

Yes, though Porsches are mainly offered by prestige and specialist providers rather than mainstream subscription services. Expect stricter eligibility checks and higher deposits, and note that availability changes.

Which electric Porsches are available?

The Taycan, the electric Macan and the electric Cayenne are Porsche's fully electric models. Subscription providers may carry some or all of them depending on their fleet.

What should I check before subscribing to a Porsche?

Look closely at the insurance excess, the minimum driver age, the mileage allowance and the charge for extra miles, and any rules about track use, which is usually excluded.
