About MINI
The original Mini was launched in 1959 by the British Motor Corporation. Designed by Alec Issigonis, its transverse engine and front-wheel drive packed four seats into a car just over three metres long. It became a symbol of 1960s Britain, won the Monte Carlo Rally in Cooper form and stayed in production until 2000. A Mini also starred in the 1969 film The Italian Job, cementing its place in British popular culture.
BMW, which acquired the Rover Group in 1994, retained the brand and launched a new, larger MINI in 2001, built at Oxford. The modern range has grown to include a convertible, the Countryman SUV and the Aceman crossover. Current models include the Cooper in three- and five-door form, with electric Cooper, Aceman and Countryman models alongside petrol versions, plus sporty John Cooper Works variants. Many petrol MINIs are still built at the Oxford plant, while its newest electric models are built in China in partnership with Great Wall Motor and in Germany.
MINI on a car subscription
MINI is a popular subscription choice for city drivers and younger motorists who want a stylish small car on a short, flexible contract. The electric Cooper and Aceman are an easy way to try an EV for urban driving, with low Benefit-in-Kind rates for company car users. Check the real-world range if you do longer trips, the insurance group and any minimum age requirement for John Cooper Works models, and the mileage allowance.
