Data we collect
We collect only what we need to run and improve the website and respond to you.
- Information you give us, such as your name, email address and message when you contact us or enquire about advertising
- Technical data, such as IP address, browser type, device information and pages viewed, collected through analytics where permitted
- Your cookie and consent choices, and your selected country edition
- Push notification subscription data, if you opt in to notifications
- Information passed when you click through to a partner, such as an insurance comparison service; once you leave our site, the partner's privacy notice applies
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, to understand how visitors use the website. Analytics cookies are set only if you allow them through our consent tool, and you can change your choice at any time. We do not use analytics data to identify individual visitors.
Cookies and consent
We use strictly necessary cookies to make the site work and to remember your choices. Other cookies and similar technologies, including analytics, embedded content and notifications, are used only with your consent. Our cookie policy lists them and explains how to change your settings.
Push notifications
If you choose to receive browser notifications, the service is provided by Subscribers.com. It processes a device token and basic browser data to deliver notifications. You can stop notifications at any time in your browser settings.
Embedded Google Maps
Some provider pages include embedded Google Maps to show a location. Loading a map allows Google to collect data such as your IP address and may set cookies. We load maps only after you consent to embedded content, or when you choose to load a map.
Our legal bases
Under UK data protection law, we rely on the following legal bases.
- Consent: for non-essential cookies, analytics, embedded content and push notifications
- Legitimate interests: to run, secure and improve the website and to respond to enquiries
- Contract: where we enter into an advertising or commercial agreement with you
- Legal obligation: where we must keep records or respond to lawful requests
How long we keep data
We keep enquiry emails only for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up. Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in Google Analytics, which we keep to the minimum needed. Consent records are kept for as long as needed to show your choice. Advertising and business records are kept as required for accounting and legal purposes.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month, or tell you if we need longer.
International transfers
Some of our service providers, including Google and Subscribers.com, may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the recipient is certified.
Privacy rights for US residents
If you live in California or another US state with a consumer privacy law, you may have rights to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion or correction, and to opt out of the sale of personal information or its sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell personal information for money.
You can opt out using the Your Privacy Choices link in the footer. We also treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as a valid request to opt out of sale and sharing. We will act on opt-out requests within 15 business days and will not ask you to opt back in for at least 12 months. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights. To make a request, email [email protected].
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have used your data, please contact us first at [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
