About Hyundai
Hyundai Motor Company was founded in 1967 as part of the wider Hyundai industrial group. Its first car was a licence-built Ford Cortina, and in 1975 it launched the Pony, South Korea's first mass-produced domestically developed car, which was also exported to the UK and other markets. Hyundai also operates a large European technical centre in Germany and competes in the World Rally Championship.
Over the following decades Hyundai grew into one of the world's largest car makers, and with Kia it forms Hyundai Motor Group. It built its reputation on value and long warranties before moving upmarket in design and quality. Today Hyundai is known for its electric IONIQ models, including the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6 and IONIQ 9, alongside the small Inster, the Kona Electric and hybrid versions of the Tucson and Santa Fe. Its N division builds performance models such as the IONIQ 5 N. The IONIQ 5 won several major international awards after its launch in 2021.
